The early days

Originally known as FC Goldenshower, the team was formed back in the summer of 2005. The lads assembled to take on the longer running and more established Livingston supporters football team of Olympique Lion. A motley crew came together to play the game on the Livingston FC fieldturf training pitch at Almondvale stadium. For the majority of this so called team it was their first time meeting those who, for some, they would end up playing together in the same team for 2 and a half years to date. The game would have been a tough enough encounter had GS been playing together for a season or 5, yet alone having met each other 30 minutes prior in the carpark. Olympique Lion went on to record a 8-1 victory, but that wasn't without a scare in the opening part of the game. GS found themselves 1-0 in 10 minutes when Diego (red shorts in picture below) scored. From that moment the seed was sown and the lads decided to get together and try to form a team, little did they know where it would lead.

Apprentice beats the teacher

Still under the guise of FC Goldenshower the team continued to gel together. Playing matches whenever possible against groups of friends put together into 11-a-side teams. Anything to keep the team together and playing as regular as possible. Results weren't great, but the team spirit was high and so were the aspirations. Whenever Olympique Lion found themselves with a free weekend away from their league football they would arrange a game against the Goldenshower boys. Past matches with high scoring defeats for GS such as the first ever 8-1 loss and all time record defeat of 13-0 lingered in the memory as FC Goldenshower lined up to play against OL on a cold February morning. GS battled hard, played some excellent football and beat their more established rivals 3 goals to 2. Not only was the feat great in itself but GS did it coming from 2-0 down to clinch what seemed like that ever elusive first victory over they team that help them come into existence and who had helped spur them on to be the team they are today.

FC Livingston GS

As can be seen from the picture above the team was a right motley crew. For over the first year they played in a mix-and-match assortment of Livingston FC tops accompanied by whatever shorts and socks happened to be lying around at home. The decision was made to try and move the team forward by trying to establish a good foundation. The club was made an official Livingston FC Supporters' Club as well as a Livingston FC Supporters' Team. They went on to appoint committee members to help with the running of the club and to apply for an Award for All SportScotland grant to help the team get off the ground. To the teams delight the application was accepted and the club was awarded funding for strips and equipment. First on the agenda was a new set of strips to make the squad look and feel like a team. Also purchased were footballs and nets, along with a snazzy collection of captains armbands.

The team has been fortunate to grace the hallowed turf at the home of Livingston FC twice in its very short history. Unfortunately GS' record is slightly worst than the professional side, having played twice and lost twice. Both times have been while taking part in the James O'Neill Memorial Trophy against rivals Olympique Lion. This match is the climax of the GS season, and a match that every player looks forward to. However, with only a limited squad size players have to ensure that they perform throughout the regular season to guarentee their place in that squad. Will 2008 be their chance to claim victory? Only time will tell...

SSML Champions 2007

As you may be able to tell from the GS home page the team won the first SSMLeague of 2007! Championees! The team fought hard, played some good football, and there was no doubting that for that league season FC Livingston GS were the best team and deserved to win the championship.
